Back to School - September Newsletter

September 1, 2021

Last month’s newsletter included a reply request about helping us bring in food truck(s) as a community appreciation event.  As this would be first time for such an occasion, details about potential discounted or complimentary meals were to be determined with community input.  Unfortunately, the wording in the previous newsletter may have been confusing and only five homes responded as interested.  If you haven’t already, please notify the office if you and your families are interested in a food truck night before this opportunity graduates ahead of us!  On a more positive note, the yard sale was a blast and we had really great turnout!  Thanks to all who participated.

There have been more than a few reports to the office about rough housing in the billiard rooms last month: please be reminded to treat the amenities with care and discuss this with your children and teenagers.  Our pool cues and tables are all sourced from a professional billiard company with the highest quality in mind and we would like to keep it that way for your continued enjoyment.

Some Tips for Trash Disposal and Rodent Prevention:  Keep dumpsters closed when not in use and do not overfill ? Do not leave trash on the ground or on top of lids ? Break down boxes and large trash to smallest form ? Dispose of fallen fruit and vegetables immediately ? Regularly inspect mobile undercarriage and seal any holes larger than a quarter ? Maintain landscaping and clear overgrowth to deter nesting

Locally, there’s no shortage of learning this Sept 4th-5th during Civil War Days in Central Park: come to witness President Lincoln deliver the Gettysburg address.  Souvenirs and refreshments can be purchased to benefit the Historical Society, and there will be demonstrations of era-accurate weapons, military tactics and the daily life of citizens of Reedsburg.  Due to loud noises, dogs are not recommended.  More info @ hbhistory.org/civilwar  …Reminds me of the time I fainted in high school; I went down in history!

For those who preferred gym class, Sept. 9th-11th will be the Surf City USA Marathon and Half Marathon.  It’s free for spectators and registration is still open for prospective participants!  Visit RunSurfCity.com for more.

If home economics is more your style, the 23rd Annual Sunset Beach Chili Cook Off will be Saturday the 25th at the Sunset Beach Community Center (16861 12th St).  Open from 11am to 5pm, entry fee is $10 for live music, chili tasting, raffles, a silent auction, and various food booths.  Proceeds go to help the non-profit Sunset Beach Women’s Club.

For the after school special, the US Open of Surfing has come again and will grace our beaches from Sept. 20th-26th.  Come to experience surf and surf culture with some of the best professionals in the world!  Booths and entertainment will be located next to the pier, and competition events will be scheduled shortly.

We wish all our residents a very lovely, safe, and peaceful beginning to autumn.    And to all the students, H.A.G.S. (have a great schoolyear)!!
