The 92nd Ramona Pageant is Coming to Hemet!

March 24, 2015

Helen Hunt Jackson wrote the book "Ramona" when no one in Congress was interested in the plight of the Native Americans who were losing their reservations. The book follows the star-crossed lovers Ramona and Alessandro as they are victims of discrimination from both Americans and Mexicans. Everything in Jackson's book is based on true accounts taken from the area around the San Jacinto Valley and Temecula area.

The story of "Ramona" has been filmed four times in America, three of which were silent films. The 1928 version of the film starring Dolores Del Rio was found last year and restored by the Library of Congress. The first screening of the film took place last March for the first in over 80 years. This important version of "Ramona" will now forever be preserved at the Library of Congress.

For more information about the screening of the film, contact the Ramona Bowl at 658-3111.

This year's Ramona Pageant dates are April 18, 19, 25, and 26, and May 2 and 3 at 3:30 p.m. Gates will open at 1:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $32 for the lower level for all ages and $20 for locals. For the upper level, tickets are $32 for adults, $29 for seniors 62 and up, and $19 for children 12 and under. Shaded box seats are $47 for all ages.
